2016 marks a landmark year for SuperValu as it reaches the 25th anniversary of its sponsorship of the national TidyTowns competition.
This is one of the longest running sponsorships in Ireland and one that we are extremely proud to be associated with down through the years.
SuperValu stores are an integral part of communities throughout Ireland. We believe in the power and value of helping to build vibrant local communities through providing employment, supporting local suppliers and local initiatives. TidyTowns brings people together to work for a common cause, making our towns and villages better places to live and ensuring we are providing sustainable communities for future generations to come.
SuperValu and TidyTowns is a perfect partnership, as 221 SuperValu stores are embedded in communities across the country and our retailers, similar to TidyTowns committees form part of the fabric of towns and villages across Ireland. SuperValu retailers have served the people of Ireland for over 35 years and like many TidyTowns members, they work tirelessly to enhance the areas in which they live and work, and they understand the importance of having pride in the local community.
Over the last 25 years, we have worked closely with the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government to ensure that this significant competition continues to gather the momentum it deserves and is recognised for the value it adds to communities across Ireland. We have seen significant growth in the competition throughout the years and an unwavering commitment by hundreds of volunteers involved.
We are proud of our sponsorship and we continue to encourage people of all age groups across Ireland to participate in the competition. Last year, we introduced two new awards – the SuperValu Diversity Award and the SuperValu Youth Award. The addition of these accolades was a real endorsement of growth of the competition and its ability to attract all age groups and embrace all cultures within our communities. Both awards generated an overwhelming number of entries and we will continue to drive further participation this year.
In addition, we will also continue to celebrate the hard work and dedication of committee members through our Community Heroes’ awards.
We encourage you to keep us informed of your progress throughout the competition as you help your community to be a better place to live. Check out our website - SuperValu.ie for competition updates and also take the time to share some committee photos of your hard work on our Facebook page, facebook.com/SuperValuIreland or on twitter.com/@SuperValuIRL.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation and wish you the very best for what promises to be another successful and enjoyable SuperValu TidyTowns 2016.
Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh go léir!
