Active Retirement Ireland (ARI) is a registered charity set up in 1983 that works to bring the elderly together to be active and share their experiences.
The voluntary organisation is run at local, regional and national level, and has over 24,500 members as well as 550 local associations.
ARI has activities aiming to keep older people active and well. They are open to members aged 50 years and over and have over 4200 volunteers throughout the country.
The Active Retirement Associations (ARA) are seen as a lifeline for older people as they help them to keep busy and meet new friends and as a result this helps them feel connected and they don’t feel isolated or lonely.
